Herb Scheeter

Herb Scheeter, 81, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, at his home.

He was born Nov. 23, 1932, in New Hamburg, Mo., to Otto and Mamie Westrich Scheeter.

He and Edna Anna Schwepker were married Oct. 20, 1956, at St. Edward Catholic Church in Dutchtown.

Herb served in the Army. He worked for the former Marquette Cement. He was a truck driver for L.A. Tucker Truck Lines and Inman Freight, and he retired from Overnite Transportation. He later worked part time for Kohlfeld Distributing.

He liked fishing, hunting rabbit and squirrel, gardening, metal working and making monkeys out of peach seeds.

He was a member of St. Mary Cathedral and Knights of Columbus Council No. 1111.

Survivors include his wife, Edna Scheeter of Cape Girardeau; sons, Vaughn Scheeter (Toni) and Bruce Scheeter (Melissa) of Cape Girardeau; daughters, Iris Preusser (Tony) of Friedheim and Denise Comer (Casey) of Cape Girardeau; brothers, Ervin "Webb" Scheeter (Frances) of Benton, Mo., and Alvin Scheeter (Claudine) of Danville, Ill.; sisters, Lois Eastwood of Chaffee, Mo., Ada Lee Hasenkamp (Clayton) of Benton and Arabella Stike of Cape Girardeau; grandchildren, Matthew Preusser, Luke Meystedt, Aaron Meystedt, Kelsey Ulrich, Kaitlyn Vanden Heuvel, Brennan Scheeter, Jeremy Meystedt and Gabe Spence; and great-grandchildren, Mallory Meystedt, Maddie Jo Preusser, Addison Ulrich, Lucas Meystedt, Beckett Ulrich and Hudson Vanden Heuvel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and four sisters.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m. with Knights of Columbus rosary immediately following.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Old St. Vincent's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Tom Kiefer officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery in Cape Girardeau. Graveside military rites will be provided by Missouri Honors Team.

Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society.
