Business Notebook: Scott City welcomes plastics firm, 28 jobs

The Missouri Department of Economic Development announced Select Plastics LLC, a custom plastic sheet extrusion manufacturer of Fort Worth, Texas, is expanding to Scott City.

The facility will be the company's first expansion outside the Fort Worth area and will create 28 jobs, according to a news release from the agency.

Select Plastics' Missouri location will put it closer to its Midwest customer base, the release said.

"We were impressed by all the resources Missouri has to offer from a central geographical location to a low-tax environment," said Greg Nagel and Steve Ploeger, managing partners of Select Plastics, in the release. "But the real selling point was the wide availability of highly-skilled workers that will help make our expansion to the Midwest a true success."

The department offered an economic incentive package the company can receive it if meets strict job creation and investment criteria, the release said. The Cape Girardeau Area Magnet, Scott County officials and local business leaders also joined with the company to assist in the expansion project that includes a $5.3 million capital investment.

Public meetings held for transportation input

The Southeast Metropolitan Planning Organization invites transportation stakeholders and the public to attend two meetings to discuss transportation planning.

Attendees can offer ideas about Missouri's transportation system, including roads and bridges, transit, aviation, rail, waterways, pedestrian and bicycle needs, according to a news release.

Attendees will be given information on the planning process and will have the opportunity to submit projects for consideration, the release said.

Meeting times and locations are as follows:

* 10 a.m. March 14 at Jackson City Hall council chambers, 101 Court St. in Jackson

* 1 p.m. March 14 at Cape Girardeau City Hall council chambers at 401 Independence St. in Cape Girardeau
