Inalienable rights

When the Founders wrote in the Declaration of Independence that "all men are created equal," they were not ignoring the obvious differences that make people individuals -- differences in appearance, personality, aptitude, skills and character. All men are equal in the sense that, since we are all human, we are born with certain inherent, natural and unalienable rights. Those rights include, the Founders wrote, "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." This essential equality means that no one is born with a natural right to rule over others without their consent, and that governments are obligated to apply the law equally to everyone. I often wonder if those who want gun controls, including today's president, know the definition of "Equal and Inalienable Rights."

Missouri flag

Not one but all bears must be removed from the Missouri flag! I don't think there should be any lingering belief that Missouri shares anything in common with the Russian or one-time Soviet Union's status, often described as a bear.

Relationship story

I am surprised to see the Missourian join the national media and Hollywood with a front-page story that encourages acceptance of gay behavior in our society. True, it is a supposed news story and therefore subtle in its endorsement, but it no less promotes the ultimate goal of the homosexual population -- that their behavior be accepted as just as normal and godly as heterosexuality. With the media at work, it is only a matter of time before we see gay clubs organized in all of our schools and the Missourian publishing loving pictures of gay engagements and marriages. Homosexual and bisexual practices will become commonplace and the "in" thing among our youth.

Shopping for care

It's a simple idea, but a radical one. Let people know in advance how much health care will cost them -- and whether they can find a better deal somewhere else. This would be one of the best things to happen. One hospital may charge $2,000 for an operation and another $10,000. You would see health care go way down in cost to where it should be.

Water filters

I'm a citizen of Cape Girardeau. And I have something I need to say about our water. Now, we are putting so many chemicals in this water, it is terrible. I bought a filter that I could run my water through, because in the mornings, when I get up, I used to drink a glass of water out of the tap. And I can smell the chlorine so much in there that it is terrible. Now, imagine what that is doing to our systems. I put one on my shower because I take a hot shower, and it was causing me severe anxiety. Now, people of Cape Girardeau, my advice is to get as many filters as possible and filter your water.

Abortion

It looks like those 55 million babies we murdered through abortion are going to get the last laugh. Because that was 55 million would be taxpayers that were going to fund the old folks' retirement, like Social Security and Medicare. But they won't now.
