MURPHYSBORO, Ill. -- A man accused of killing a Cape Girardeau woman has been returned to Southern Illinois to face charges of first-degree murder.

WSIL-TV reports that 28-year-old Brandon Banks, also of Cape Girardeau, is jailed in Jackson County, Ill., after challenging extradition from St. Louis. That's where he was arrested in January two days after the body of 40-year-old Marsha Ann Brown was found in tall weeds on a small embankment near Makanda, Ill.

Banks was returned to Illinois on Friday. He is jailed on $1 million bond.

Online court records do not show whether Banks has an attorney.

Banks' last known address was 716 N. Sprigg St. in Cape Girardeau -- the same address where area police helped agents from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives execute a search warrant just before his arrest.

Online court records show Banks has several prior offenses, including a 2011 case in which he was placed on probation for unlawful possession of a firearm and a 2007 case in which he pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance.
