SIKESTON, Mo. -- A police pursuit that began in Sikeston and ended in Portageville, Mo., concluded with one man dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

According to a news release from the Sikeston Department of Public Safety, officers received a call about a disturbance on Marian Street. A man reportedly pulled out a gun after the witness attempted to intervene during an argument between him and a woman later identified as his former girlfriend. The man forced the woman into her vehicle and drove away as police arrived, the release said.

He refused to stop for Sikeston police and allegedly swerved at a Miner police officer also responding to the disturbance as he made his way to Interstate 55, heading south. The news release also said he evaded spike strips used by the Missouri State Highway Patrol at the 44-mile marker.

The man, identified as Thomas Louis Seminazzi, 43, of Maryland, exited at Portageville and pulled into a vacant lot west of the exit. According to the news release, Seminazzi fired a single round to his head and died immediately as officers approached the vehicle.
