The Southeast Missouri State University Department of Mathematics will host the 37th annual Math Field Day today featuring about 693 students from 28 area junior and senior high schools, a university news release said.

The event starts at 9 a.m. and conclude with an awards ceremony at 1 p.m. at the Show Me Center. Team events will begin at 9:30 a.m., while individual testing will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

At noon, student teams will compete in a scholar bowl-type event, Mathletics, where students will compete to correctly answer a variety of math problems viewable on a video screen, the release said. Tests will be graded by faculty members in the Department of Mathematics.

The top three students receive medals in the 23 individual events, the release said. The top three schools will receive plaques and certificates in the five team events as well as trophies in Mathletics. The best overall school will receive a Sigma Award trophy.
