The New McKendree United Methodist Women met April 1 in the fellowship hall with 28 members present. The meeting was called to order by Doris Dace, vice president. The minutes of the last meeting were read by Pam Buck, secretary, and approved as read. Marilyn Fronabarger, treasurer, gave that report.

Chairperson reports:

Program resources: Tina Crites is looking for books missing and not checked out of the library.

Spiritual growth: Donna Mason sent a report that next month's collection would be for Jackson School District. Needed are childrens' pants and shorts sizes 6-10 and packages of underwear. No shirts or jackets are needed. Items will be collected at circle meetings.

Membership: Inez Statler reported her committee had taken communion and visited the shut-ins on their lists.

Bereavement: Elwanda Corbin reported her team had served two meals.

Circle count was taken and the Wesleyan Circle won the attendance ribbon.

Esther Circle will serve the May 6 Jackson Manor birthday party.

Dace gave a report on the spring apron event to be held at 2:30 p.m. today at South Campus.

UMW Weekend will be May 3 and 4. Money may be given in honor or memory of loved ones and money can be turned in to the church office.

Julie Combs suggested that circles provide food for the workers at the 100-mile yard sale to be held May 22 through 24.

Buck reported on the Women's Retreat held March 29 led by Nancy Isreal. Approximately 25 women attended.

The Go Team Fish Fry will be held April 26 with the same circle cake assignments.

Dace announced that at the Spring District meeting March 29 at Hayti, Mo., New McKendree received a certificate of love for completing items on the Mission Today Report and also received a certificate as a five-star unit by meeting the Pledge to Mission, Special Mission Recognition, Gift to Mission, Gift in Memory and World Thank Offering.

The program was presented by Shirley Patterson of Wesleyan Circle who highlighted a book by the Rev. Susan Sparks titled "Laugh Your Way to Grace."

Dace closed the meeting with a reading from the Prayer Calendar.

Esther Circle members were hostesses.
