ADVANCE, Mo. -- Rev. James Johns, 77, of Advance passed away Thursday, April 10, 2014, at his home.

ADVANCE, Mo. -- Rev. James Johns, 77, of Advance passed away Thursday, April 10, 2014, at his home.

He was born Oct. 25, 1936, in Dover, Ark., son of Fred and Elsie Ford Johns. He and Wanda Tolbert were married May 28, 1960, in Greenbrier, Mo.

James had been pastor at Greenbrier Assembly of God Church since March 1959. He had worked at Inland Shoe Factory as a warehouse manager, and retired from Cape Girardeau public schools.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Johns of the home; two sons, Stephen Johns of Tampa, Fla., and Michael Johns of St. Louis; two brothers, Art Johns of Bloomfield, Mo., and Lamoine Johns of Kankakee, Ill.; and a sister, Glenda Schroeter of Jackson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Visitation will be from 4:30 to 8 p.m. today at Morgan Funeral Home in Advance.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the chapel, with the Rev. Ed Shirrell officiating and the Rev. John Chamness assisting. Burial will be in Morgan Memorial Park in Advance.
