A Sikeston, Mo., man faces a charge of unlawful use of a weapon in connection with a March case in which a bullet penetrated the window of a home day-care facility on Benton Street.

Terrance Vance, 27, is in custody at the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Department on $25,000 bond, according to a news release Monday from the Cape Girardeau County Police Department.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Vance on April 5, the release stated.

No one was injured when the bullet passed through the window of the home day-care business at 416 S. Benton St., but an officer at the scene said it struck a wall inside the house and became lodged in the drywall.

At the time, Darin Hickey, public information officer for the Cape Girardeau Police Department, said officers did not believe the house was the shooter's intended target.

Schools in the area were placed on lockdown for about 30 minutes as a precaution while police investigated.

Online court records show Vance pleaded guilty to second-degree assault in 2005 in Mississippi County Circuit Court, and he has a drug possession charge pending against him in Cape Girardeau County and a nonsupport case pending against him in Scott County.

A Terrance Vance with the same year of birth and an Algoa Correctional Center address pleaded guilty to burglary and theft charges in 2006 and to domestic assault charges in 2006 and 2007, online court records show.
