Thomas Parks was sworn in as the new postmaster of Jackson on Feb. 27.
__BURGER NAMED LEADER OF TOMORROW__
Nicholas Burger, commercial banking relationship manager for U.S. Bank at 325 N. Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau, was named a Leader of Tomorrow by the bank. Leaders of Tomorrow is a 12-month program that recognizes up-and-coming leaders within U.S. Bank. The class of 2014 was made up of 10 individuals, one representing each community banking division within U.S. Bank's 25-state region. Burger began working at U.S. Bank in 2010 as a credit analyst.
__KELLERMANS RECEIVE HISTORIC PRESERVATION AWARD__
Drs. Bert and Mary Ann Kellerman of the Kellerman Foundation for Historic Preservation in Cape Girardeau received a 2014 McReynolds Award from the Missouri Alliance for Historic Preservation for ongoing commitment to preservation. The Kellermans established the not-for-profit foundation to support historic preservation, especially in Southeast Missouri, in 2012. Their most recent project was the restoration of the Oliver-Leming House in Cape Girardeau, home of the Missouri state flag.
__PHILLIPS IS EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH__
PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Dale Phillips of Perryville was employee of the month for March at TG Missouri. He has been with the company since July 25, 1996, and works in G-section in Building 3.
__HARRIS NAMED PERSON OF THE YEAR__
POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Former teacher Kathern Harris was honored as 2013 Person of the Year by the Butler County Community Resource Council, the Daily American Republic reported. Harris, who retired from Three Rivers College in 2011, is on the CRC board of directors and a member of its finance committee. She leads the CRC Succeeding in Schools Committee, organizing the annual Poplar Bluff schools spelling bee and Math Counts competitions for elementary students. She also volunteers with the Wheatley school tutoring program, among other things. Harris was also named Person of the Year in 1999.
__LADY JOINS POPLAR BLUFF REALTY__
POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Lori Lady joined Poplar Bluff Realty Inc. as a real estate agent. She was previously employed as a financial representative with Northwestern Mutual.
__THREE RIVERS PRESENTS MASTER PLANNER AWARDS__
POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Dr. Devin Stephenson, president of Three Rivers College, awarded Three Rivers' Master Planner Awards to Missy Marshall, Kathy Richardson and Kristina McDaniel at the college's annual planning retreat. The awards are given to college leaders who do an exceptional job of creating and executing improvement plans for their departments. Marshall is director of the Three Rivers Center at Sikeston, Mo., Richardson is systems administrator and McDaniel is director of human resources.
__HEISSERER HONORED AS CONSERVATION FARMER__
Charles Heisserer of Scott City was named 2013 Conservation Farmer of the Year by the Soil and Water Conservation District. The award was presented at the district's annual meeting Feb. 20.
__MONDI JACKSON HONORS EMPLOYEES__
Charles Motley II of Jackson was employee of the month for March at Mondi Jackson Inc. Motley, a prepress operator, has been with the company since Aug. 19, 2013. Mondi Jackson also recognizes the following employees for 10 years of service: Stephen Masters, Mark Higgins and Brian Brantley.
__WHITE ATTENDS VETERINARY PRACTICE MEETING__
PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Dr. Kenneth E. White attended the Missouri Academy of Veterinary Practice meeting at the Missouri Veterinary Medical Association's annual convention Jan. 31 to Feb. 2 in Osage Beach, Mo. White is a veterinarian at Perry County Veterinary Hospital in Perryville. MAVP member requirements include at least 40 hours of continuing education annually.
__BANK OF MISSOURI RECOGNIZES EMPLOYEES__
Kristen Klaus, vice president of marketing at The Bank of Missouri, marked 10 years with the financial institution. Diane Marler, senior operations assistant with The Bank of Missouri, marked 15 years and Cindy Mueller, senior financial services consultant, was honored for 20 years.
__KELSEY RECOGNIZED FOR REALTY EXCELLENCE__
Tom Kelsey, president and broker for Lorimont Place Ltd. in Cape Girardeau, received an Award of Excellence designation for 2013 by the Cape Girardeau County Board of Realtors. The recognition is given to members who produce multimillion-dollar volume for property sold and leased during the year. Kelsey qualified for the pinnacle level, or highest volume, for the award. He has been a recipient of the top sales award for the past 18 years.
__DIXON NAMED SAFE HOUSE SHELTER MANAGER__
Kim Dixon was named shelter manager of the Safe House for Women in Cape Girardeau. She previously worked as child advocate for the Safe House. Her responsibilities include overseeing shelter operations and case management.
__WOELTJE NAMED EDUCATION, OUTREACH COORDINATOR__
Molly Woeltje was named education and outreach coordinator of the Safe House for Women in Cape Girardeau. She has worked for the Safe House since 2007 and previously was case manager. Her responsibilities include team teaching healthy relationships and abuse prevention and awareness to schools, churches, organizations and businesses in the area.
__MOTT HIRED AS CHILD ADVOCATE, CASE MANAGER__
Carrie Mott was hired as child advocate and case manager for the Safe House for Women in Cape Girardeau. Her responsibilities include ensuring residents and children are connected to services and receive assistance needed to meet their goals and serving as a liaison between the Safe House and other community agencies. She previously worked with Beacon Health Center.
__NIXON MAKES NOMINATIONS TO BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS__
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Gov. Jay Nixon has made nominations to seven boards and commissions, including two individuals from Cape Girardeau, according to a news release from the governor's office. The nominations will be subject to approval by the Missouri Senate. Dr. Kyle E. Brost was nominated to the State Board of Optometry. Brost, an optometrist, has operated a family eye business in Cape Girardeau since 1989 and also is a paramedical health professional for Perry County Memorial Hospital in Perryville, Mo. The governor nominated him for a term ending June 30, 2015. Dr. Joel P. Rhodes was nominated to the State Historical Records Advisory Board. A current member of the board, Rhodes is a professor of history at Southeast Missouri State University. The governor nominated him for a term ending Nov. 1, 2016.
__DECKER JOINS SOUTHERN BANK__
POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Aaron Decker joined the loan team at Southern Bank's Vine Street location in Poplar Bluff. He previously worked for the bank's internal auditing department.
__TAYLOR JOINS OLD TOWN CAPE__
Kevin Taylor was named Old Town Cape's new development and resources coordinator. He will be responsible for volunteer and committee support and facilitation, development and fundraising coordination and office management. Taylor is attending Southeast Missouri State University and expects to receive a degree in historic preservation with a minor in history and construction management in May.
__DALE CERTIFIED FOR INSOMNIA TREATMENT__
Bob Dale, therapist and director of the Dale and Hancock Center for Individual and Family Therapy in Cape Girardeau, now is certified in the treatment of insomnia through the Massachusetts General Hospital, Psychiatry Academy.
__BELL GETS TOP SALES AWARD__
M.A. Bell of Realty Executives of Cape County received the 2013 Mid-America Region Top 13 Agent Award from Realty Executives International. The Mid-America Region consists of three states: Missouri, Kansas and Colorado. Bell also received the Platinum Executive Club Award from Realty Executives of Cape County and the Pinnacle Level Award as Top 3 Agent from the Cape Girardeau County Board of Realtors.
__WARPE PRESENTS SPEECH IN SHAGHAI__
George "Skip" Warpe, president of River City Biologicals in Cape Girardeau, presented a speech at the World Vaccine Manufacturers Summit on March 28 in Shanghai. River City Biologicals is a biological raw materials company that supplies animal serum. Warpe is chairman of the International Serum Industry Association.
__PORTER NAMED DIRECTOR OF SALES__
Alison Porter was named director of sales for Paycheck Payroll Services. She holds a marketing degree from the University of Missouri-St. Louis and previously worked for River Radio Group and the Republic-Monitor of Perryville, Mo.
__HICKS RECEIVES EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING AWARD__
POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Greg Hicks, instructor of business at Three Rivers College, received the Governor's Award for Excellence in Teaching at a Missouri Community College Association awards luncheon in Jefferson City, Mo. The award is given to the top community college instructors in Missouri each year. Hicks has taught at Three Rivers for more than 25 years, specializing in information systems and technology. Among his achievements during his tenure are the creation of an information systems bachelor's degree completion program in partnership with Hannibal-LaGrange University, and spreading technology throughout K-12 classrooms in the region through his Technology for Teachers course.

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Lee Bowman of Sikeston, a financial representative with Modern Woodmen of America, was Agent of the Year in the Missouri East Region for 2013.
__CONRAD NAMED OUTSTANDING CLERK FOR 2014__
Gayle Conrad, director of city services/city clerk for the City of Cape Girardeau, was named Outstanding Clerk for 2014 at the Missouri City Clerks and Finance Officers Association's spring conference in Columbia, Mo. Conrad is also serving as the organization's president this year. She has been a city employee for more than 22 years and the city clerk for 20 years.
__ROUSE NAMED PUBLISHER AT DAILY STATESMAN__
DEXTER, Mo. -- Shelia Rouse, who has extensive newspaper management experience in Southeast Missouri and Western Tennessee, assumed the publisher position at the Daily Statesman, effective April 1, the newspaper reported. It will be an expanded role within Rust Communications for Rouse, who has been publisher of the State Gazette in Dyersburg, Tenn., since 2001. She also will assume duties as publisher of the Daily Dunklin Democrat in Kennett, the Delta News-Citizen in Malden, the Missourian-News in Portageville and the North Stoddard Countian in Advance-Bloomfield. She will continue as publisher in Dyersburg. Current publisher Ron Kemp will continue in his role as regional vice president for Rust Communications, working with Rouse on the newspapers she publishes as part of his overall responsibilities.

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Mossy Oak Properties Inc. announced that Lucas Edington, broker with Mossy Oak Properties Mozark Realty, was recognized as a Pinnacle Club member for the fourth quarter of 2013. The Pinnacle Club recognized the top land sales professionals each quarter from a network of more than 300 agents and brokers across 21 states.

__RUSHIN ATTENDS FITNESS CONFERENCE__
POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Local chiropractor Dr. Jack Rushin attended the Arnold Sports Festival and Fitness Weekend Feb. 27 to March 2 in Columbus, Ohio. He participated in the International Chiropractors Association symposium on natural fitness. Subjects included proper nutrition and food sources for better health, and the expanding role of chiropractics in patient care.
__FARROW RECEIVES PRESIDENT'S CIRCLE AWARD__
Greg Farrow, AAA sales agent at the Cape Girardeau office, received AAA's President's Circle Award for 2013. He was recognized for meeting goals in auto insurance sales, loss ratios and policyholder services. He also received AAA's Accuracy Award and President's Circle diamond ring, which recognizes AAA's top 12 sales agents. He has been a AAA sales agent since 2009.
__HANEBRINK, CUNNINGHAM JOIN EXIT REALTY__
Amy Hanebrink and Laura Cunningham joined Exit Realty-Thomas Meyer Associates as agents with the Cape Girardeau firm. Both agents are natives of Southeast Missouri. Hanebrink expects a bachelor's degree from Southeast Missouri State University in marketing management. Cunningham has a bachelor's degree in biology from Southeast.
