James Stephen Smithwick, 55, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, April 18, 2014, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born July 7, 1958, in Cape Girardeau to James S. and Evelyn Blondell Milam Smithwick.

He was a member of Church of Christ. He was a graduate of Cape Girardeau Central High School and of Floral Designing School in Memphis, Tenn. James worked for Toni's Flower House in Cape Girardeau for more than 25 years. He enjoyed gardening and won several awards for his gardening expertise.

Survivors include partner, Wayne Horn of Cape Girardeau, and companion, Sasha.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Larry Dowdy and Steve Simmons officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Kidney Foundation or to the American Diabetes Association.
