The Southeast Missouri State softball team snapped a 13-game losing streak with a 9-7 win against Saint Louis University on Wednesday after dropping the first game in the doubleheader 8-0.

Third baseman Haylee Krack went 3 for 4 in the win with four RBIs and three runs scored, including a pair of two-run home runs and a double.

The Redhawks took an early 3-0 lead in Game 2 after an RBI single from first baseman Savannah Carpenter and Krack's first homer of the game.

SLU countered that with five runs in the bottom of the first inning on three hits, two walks and an error.

Krack tied the game at 5-all in the third with her ninth home run of the season.

Carpenter scored left fielder Jamie Woodworth, who'd doubled and was 3 for 3 in the game, with a sacrifice fly in the fifth to give the Redhawks a one-run lead.

The Billikens regained the lead in the home half of the inning with a pair of two-out RBI singles by designated player/pitcher Brianna Lore and right fielder Mackenzie Peter.

The Redhawks took the lead for good with two runs in the sixth on a Meaghan Touchette sac fly and a single from Renee Terry. They added an insurance run in the seventh when Lindsay Patterson drew a leadoff walk and later scored on a wild pitch.

Southeast reliever Hannah Durham recorded her second save of the season after getting out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the seventh. She gave up two hits in two scoreless innings of work.

Reliever Keaira Schilling (3-13) picked up the win. She pitched 1/3 of an inning and allowed one hit.

Schilling started Game 1 and recorded the loss. She allowed five earned runs on two hits with three walks without recording an out before Durham replaced her.

The Billikens plated five runs in the first inning and added a run in the third, fifth and sixth innings to secure the 8-0 win.

Durham pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowed two earned runs on six hits with three walks.

SLU starting pitcher Lore (17-11) pitched a complete game and allowed just one hit in the win. She walked four and struck out six Redhawks.

Krack had the lone hit for Southeast in the loss.

Gutierrez honored

Southeast Missouri State's Kayla Gutierrez was named the Ohio Valley Conference Co-Field Athlete of the Week on Wednesday.

Gutierrez's throw of 191 feet, 3 inches in the hammer throw was good for second place at the War Eagle Invitational in Auburn, Ala., on Saturday and broke Southeast's record by more than 13 feet.

She also finished seventh in the shot put with a toss of 45-6 1/2.

She shares the honor with SIU Edwardsville's Jatavia Wright.

Southeast will compete at Arkansas State on Friday and Saturday.
