William Clifton Hancock, 82, of Scott City died Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born July 17, 1931, in Houston, Mo., to Ensul Clifton and Mary Helen Potts Hancock. He and Mary Joan Yager were married Aug. 26, 1956, in Aztec, N.M.

William was a welder and blueprint instructor for Surplus Properties in St. Louis. He was of the Protestant faith.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo; a son, Alan (Diane) Hancock of Blue Springs, Mo.; two brothers, Larry Hancock of Pueblo, Colo., and David Hancock of Grand Junction, Colo.; three sisters, Thelma Sheridan of Pueblo West, Colo., Virginia Wands of Canyon City, Colo., and Lana Chapman of Pueblo; and a grandson, Kenneth Hancock.

He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers and a sister.

Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until time of service Sunday at Amick-Burnett Chapel in Scott City.

The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. at the chapel, with the Rev. Bruce Clubb officiating. Military honors will be conducted after the service. Burial will be private.
