LEOPOLD, Mo. -- Leonard Anthony Elfrink, 92, of Leopold passed away Friday, April 25, 2014, at his home.

He was born Oct. 10, 1921, in Leopold, son of Jacob J. and Lucy Vandeven Elfrink. He and Geraldine Anna Steinnerd were married Sept. 11, 1948.

Leonard was a farmer. He was a member of Knights of Columbus 5898, VFW Post 5900, Leopold School Board, and a lifetime member of St. John's Catholic Church and parish council.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in November 1942. He served in New Guinea, southern Philippines and Luzon, earning the World War II Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with a Bronze Star and the Asiatic Service Medal.

Survivors include his wife, Geraldine of Leopold; two sons, Dan (Patti) Elfrink of Whitewater and Greg (Lisa) Elfrink of Sherwood, Ark.; a sister, Ethel Fisher of Overland, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Tyler, Jacob, Dylan and Noah Elfrink, Chelsea Dillick, Cherish Niswonger and Chancellor Elfrink; and a great-granddaughter, Bailey Elfrink.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John Martin in infancy, Martin and Joseph Elfrink; six sisters, Martha Nenninger, Clara Terbrock, Rosina Eldracher, Adele Holzum, Elsie Jansen and Josephine Bax.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill. Parish prayers and Knights of Columbus rosary will be at 7.

Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. John's Catholic Church in Leopold, with the Rev. William Hennecke officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. John's Parish Prayer Garden.
