The record set by the steamer Golden Eagle in its nine-hour, 10-minute cruise down the Mississippi River from St. Louis to Cape Girardeau on Sunday lived but a day; the big towboat steamer Iowa, making a run downstream under similar conditions Monday, set a time of 8 hours 15 minutes for the 128-mile run.

A school bus load of 41 people, including five teachers and 36 juniors and seniors of the high school at Delta, start on a three-day tour of Missouri; the group will tour Ste. Genevieve, St. Louis, Hannibal, Columbia, Jefferson City and Lake of the Ozarks.

1914

S. Campbell, a young man working for the Mutual Wheel Co. in South Cape, is painfully injured when a piece of timber gets away from him and strikes him in the forehead, inflicting a small gash; he is treated by a Haarig physician.

The contract for the big central school building isn't let by the school board, as had been planned; all the bids exceed the estimate of the architect and would run the price of the completed building more than the board can pay.
