Becky Burger threw a one-hitter as the Scott City girls softball team closed its regular season with a 12-1 victory over East Prairie in five innings Friday.

Burger (13-4) struck out nine and did not walk a batter.

Hailey Clayton had three hits for the Rams, while Shelby Rhymer, Lyndsie Robert and Bella Bowers all had two hits. Robert had a triple, while Macy Hall and Valarie Bahr both had a double.

The Rams, who had 13 hits, improved to 13-5 on the season.

Scott City will host the Class 1 District 5 tournament. The top-seeded Rams will face No. 4 Scott County Central at 3:30 p.m. Monday in a first-round game.

BASEBALL

Portageville 5, Chaffee 4 (8 inn.)

Portageville scored a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to hand visiting Chaffee just its second loss of the season.

The Red Devils (15-2) scored three runs in the top of the first but saw Portageville pull even with a run in the second and two in the third. Chaffee moved ahead 4-3 in the fourth, but Portageville again tied the game with a run in the sixth.

Losing pitcher Cody Payne allowed eight hits over seven innings. He struck out nine and walked one.

Jordan Kinder, Ryan Lohmann and Charlie Montgomery all had two hits for Chaffee, which had seven hits overall. Lohmann's hits included a double.

The Indians scored once in the top of the seventh to pull within a run of Triad (Ill.) but couldn't complete the comeback at the Notre Dame Showcase.

Josh Barber was the only Jackson player to collect more than one hit, going 2 for 4 at the plate.
