Southeast Missouri State freshman and Central graduate Chris Martin won the triple jump with a distance of 51 feet, 11 3/4 inches at the Arkansas State Red Wolves Open on Saturday.

The mark ranks third in the NCAA West region and tied Southeast's Reggie Miller's Ohio Valley Conference-leading mark.

Bethany Pfeiffer was the only other event winner for the Redhawks. She won the javelin with a throw of 140 feet on Friday.

On Saturday, Prenecia Ponds finished second in the 100-meter dash in 11.87 seconds and third in the 200-meter dash in 24.50 seconds.

Cheyenne Tunti took third place in the 400-meter dash in 55.85 seconds.

The 400-meter relay team of Ponds, Tunti, Ayonna Cartwright and Chelsea Miller finished second in 46.57 seconds.

Jessica Brown's long jump of 19-4 was good for a second-place finish.

Christian Locke took second in the pole vault with a height of 16-3 1/2.

Kayla Gutierrez was second in the hammer throw with a throw of 187-1/2 on Friday and third in the discus with a throw of 171-8 on Saturday.

Brian Grote's throw of 196-1/2 was good for third on the men's side.

Charles Johnson came in second in the steeplechase with a time of 9 minutes, 18.20 seconds.

The Redhawks compete at the OVC Championships on Friday and Saturday at SIU-Edwardsville in Edwardsville, Ill.

Softball

The Southeast Missouri State softball team lost its ninth Ohio Valley Conference series of the season after dropping both games of a doubleheader to UT-Martin on Saturday.

The Redhawks (8-32, 2-18 OVC) scored one run on five hits and fell to the Skyhawks 6-1 in Game 1 and lost Game 2 12-6.

UTM had a 1-0 lead through five innings in Game 1 before tacking on five more runs in the sixth inning.

Southeast avoided a shutout when Meaghan Touchette scored on an error in the seventh. Jamie Woodworth had the only multiple hit day for the Redhawks. She went 2 for 3 in Game 1 with two singles.

Hannah Durham (2-10) took the loss. She gave up five runs on five hits, struck out one and walked one in 5 1/3 innings.

In Game 2, the Redhawks built themselves an early lead when Savannah Carpenter belted a two-run shot to left field giving Southeast a 2-0 lead.

The lead did not last long for the Redhawks as UTM answered with a two-RBI double in the bottom half of the first to knot the game 2-2.

In the second inning the Skyhawks added five more runs and took a commanding 7-2 lead.

Southeast tapped into the UTM lead with three consecutive RBI singles in the third inning making it 7-5, but the Skyhawks scored five more in the fourth inning.

Lindsay Patterson had a solo shot in the sixth inning, but the Redhawks did not manage another run after that.

Keaira Schilling (3-14) took the loss, giving up six earned runs on three hits.

She struck out three and walked two in one inning of work.

Aubrey Denno pitched in relief, allowing two earned runs on four hits in two innings.

Durham pitched the final two innings allowing two more earned runs. She struck out one and walked one.
