Vernell Rodenberry, 89, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, May 15, 2014, at Southeast Hospital.

She was born July 22, 1924, in Cape Girardeau, to Robert and Jossie Owens Graden. She and Willie E. Rodenberry were married May 8, 1946, in Cape Girardeau.

Vernell was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church at Egypt Mills, where she helped with numerous church suppers over the years. She worked 25 years at Florsheim Shoe Factory in Cape Girardeau.

Survivors include her husband of Cape Girardeau; a son, Darrell (Cheryl) Rodenberry of Jackson; seven daughters, Velma Jean Pruitt and Joyce (Wendell) Miller of Cape Girardeau, Linda (Lonnie) Chapman of Grassy, Missouri, Pat (Charlie) Goodpasture of Jackson, Mary (David) Dunlap of Cape Girardeau, Brenda (Cal) Sherman of Jackson and Angie Hency of Cape Girardeau; a special nephew, Daniel Hahn of Cape Girardeau; a half sister, Donna (Russell) Lewis of Cape Girardeau; several nieces and nephews; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Phyllis Rodenberry; and a sister, Della Mae Stoops.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Egypt Mills, with the Rev. Barry L. Pfanstiel officiating. Burial will be in Thompson Cemetery near Egypt Mills.

Memorial contributions may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church of Egypt Mills Building Fund.
