Betty Jane Huckstep, 86, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, July 24, 2014, at Ratliff Care Center.

She was born Jan. 1, 1928, in Cape Girardeau, to Cletus and Ruby Lindsay Hargis. She and Gene E. Huckstep were married Aug. 21, 1946, in Jackson. He passed away May 13, 1998.

Betty was a charter member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Chapel and a volunteer at Saint Francis Medical Center. She loved cooking, hosting family birthday parties and annual family trips to Pensacola Beach, Florida. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Survivors include two daughters, Cheri Huckstep (John) Reed and Janis (Tom) Rebert of Cape Girardeau; two sons, Gordon W. (Carmen) Huckstep and Chris G. (Lisa) Huckstep of Cape Girardeau; eight grandchildren, Zachary (Blair) Huckstep, Holly (Gregg) Judkins, Aharon (Bailey) Reed, Staci (Dane) Baker, Christopher G. Huckstep Jr., Tristan Huckstep, Beckett G. Huckstep and Trey O. Huckstep; six great-grandchildren; and a stepgrandchild, Devin Traughber.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and a granddaughter, Tara Huckstep.

Special recognition is given to the staff of The Arbors where she resided six years, and to Ratliff Care Center where she had resided the last three months.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Good Shepherd Chapel, with the Rev. Weston Wildauer officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
