BENTON, Mo. -- Jim Harold Hamby, 88, of Benton passed away Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. He was born Nov. 2, 1925, in Vanduser, Missouri, to Val and Ann Tabor Hamby. He married Vadah Prindle in 1946. She preceded him in death in 1950. He married Shirley L. Steele in 1952, and she preceded him in death. He and Patricia Sanbury were married in 1957...

BENTON, Mo. -- Jim Harold Hamby, 88, of Benton passed away Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Nov. 2, 1925, in Vanduser, Missouri, to Val and Ann Tabor Hamby. He married Vadah Prindle in 1946. She preceded him in death in 1950. He married Shirley L. Steele in 1952, and she preceded him in death. He and Patricia Sanbury were married in 1957.

Jim was a veteran of the United States Navy and served during World War II as a gunner's mate in Atlantic and Pacific theaters.

He was a master plumber with Detroit Plumbers Union. He was an avid outdoorsman and hunted black bear and deer in Michigan. He also participated in the annual three-generation pheasant hunt in South Dakota.

Survivors include his wife, Pat Hamby of Benton; a son, James (Margaret) Arteme of Benton; a daughter, Diana L. (Rick) Cornman of Cleveland, Georgia; a brother, Robert (Eulia) Hamby of Sikeston, Missouri; a grandson, Tommy (Michele) Arteme of Anna, Illinois; two granddaughters, Amy (Chris) Moore of St. Louis and Danielle D. McBain of Charleston, South Carolina; four great-grandsons, Joah, Nolan and Logan Moore of St. Louis, and Drake Arteme of Anna.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, a brother and two sisters.

A graveside memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, with the Rev. Tom Morris officiating. Full military honors will be presented by the Missouri Honor Guard.
