The Notre Dame boys swimming team edged out Jackson by two points to win the season-opening SEMO Conference Kickoff Mega Meet on Tuesday at Central Municipal Pool.

Notre Dame finished with 341 points, while Jackson had 339. Central followed with 295 points, and Saxony Lutheran had 16.

The Bulldogs won only one event -- the 200 freestyle relay -- but team depth allowed for a top finish. Jackson finished first in three events, while Central placed first in eight events, including freshman Sam Hahs' state-qualifying time of 1 minute, 2.81 seconds in the 100 breaststroke.

Fellow Central freshman Brogan Davis won two events, touching the wall first in the 100 backstroke and 500 freestyle. Both freshmen also swam legs on the Tigers' winning 200-medley and 400-freestyle relay teams, joining Christian Retter and John Young in the events. Young also won the 100 butterfly, while Retter won the 100 freestyle.

"It was an exciting meet," Central coach Dayna Powell said. "It kind of gives us an idea where we're starting from and where we can end up in October."
