EAST CAPE GIRARDEAU, Ill. -- Mildred L. Tapley, 74, of East Cape Girardeau died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014, at Life Care Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Jan. 8, 1940, in Cape Girardeau, to Elba and Daisy Dorsey Wilkinson. She married Bob Tapley on March 31, 1956, in Alcorn County, Mississippi.

She was a member of First General Baptist Church of Cape Girardeau, and formerly had been a member of East Cape Girardeau Baptist Church. She had worked at Florsheim Shoe, was a homemaker, then worked at Drury Hotels. She participated and volunteered for Relay for Life, was active in 4H, took part in Tupperware parties and loved to shop. Mildred loved Elvis and they shared a birthday.

Survivors include two sons, Guy (fiancee Kay Davidson) Tapley and Jeff (Colette) Tapley, both of Cape Girardeau; four sisters, Maxine O'Howell of San Bernadino, California, Carolyn Hughes, Winnis Givens and Brenda Bowman, all of Cape Girardeau; and four grandchildren, Tasha Tapley, Dawson Tapley, Deacon Tapley and Dayne Tapley.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Kim Tapley; three brothers; and one sister.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Sam Ramdial officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Thebes, Illinois.

Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society or to First General Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau.
