Mary Joan Hancock, 78, of Scott City died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. She was born Feb. 25, 1936, in Palisade, Colorado, to Joseph and Alberta "Nellie" Nelson Yager. She and William Clifton Hancock were married Aug. 26, 1956, in Aztec, New Mexico, and he preceded her in death April 23, 2014. Mary was a retired nursing home administrator...

Mary Joan Hancock, 78, of Scott City died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Feb. 25, 1936, in Palisade, Colorado, to Joseph and Alberta "Nellie" Nelson Yager. She and William Clifton Hancock were married Aug. 26, 1956, in Aztec, New Mexico, and he preceded her in death April 23, 2014. Mary was a retired nursing home administrator.

Survivors include a son, Alan (Diane) Hancock of Raytown, Missouri; a sister, Ruth Ann Guess of Fort Worth, Texas; a sister-in-law, Thelma (Lee) Sheridan; a grandson, Kenneth Hancock; three nieces, Amy Like, Gail (Joe) Gindro and Susie (Dan) Vliek; special friends and caregivers, Gene and Jane Peacock; and her beloved pet dachshund, Yager.

Mary Jo and Bill had a very adventurous life, full of many travels across the U.S. in their RV, always with their four-legged buddies. A special "thank you" to her caregivers at the Lutheran Home, and Dr. Boardman and his office, for giving her loving and gentle care as she ended her days on this earth.

Friends may call from 1:30 p.m. until time of service Tuesday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel, with Gene Peacock and the Rev. Frank Burgess officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri.
