High school roundup: Advance finishes 3rd in SCAA Conference tourney

Freshman Alanis Below nailed 10 kills and put up four blocks to help lead the third-seeded Advance Hornets to a 25-23, 16-25, 25-20 vengeful victory over the fourth-seeded host Bloomfield Wildcats to clinch the third-place plaque in Friday's finale of the Stoddard County Activities Association (SCAA) Conference Tournament.

Bloomfield (16-10-2) defeated Advance 25-13, 29-27 on the Hornets' home court on September 30.

"It felt great," Advance coach Dana Below said. "We came out with a good start, and it was just a good game. I was proud of the girls for fighting through it."

Sophomore Brylee Morse added seven kills for the Hornets, who improved to 15-12-2 with the win. Senior Hannah Clark had a big night with 20 digs, 17 assists and three aces. Kimsey Lillard notched 13 digs to pace the Hornets defensively.

Top-seeded Dexter (26-2-1) swept second-seeded Bernie (20-9) 25-15, 25-18 for the championship.

All-Tournament honors were bestowed upon Dexter's Jessica Lindsey, Shyann Jines, Krysten Garrison and Julia Hahn; Bernie's Morgan Baker, Kayli Tanner and Addie Shelton; Advance's Hannah Clark and Alanis Below; Bloomfield's Chelsea Delay and Lindsey Young; and Woodland's Krista Rhodes.

MVC Conference Tournament

Leopold 25 25, Greenville 8 18

The Wildcats (21-2-3) eased to the Mississippi Valley Conference tournament title with a win over host Greenville (19-8-1).

Eagle Ridge Christian 18 25 25, Agape Christian (Ill.) 25 21 18

Jessie Gartman had 20 kills to lead the Eagles to victory over the Knights in three sets on the road in Marion, Illinois.

Emily Jackson added 10 kills for Eagle Ridge (13-3). Callie Hefner dished out 30 assists for the Eagles.

SOFTBALL

Schedule changes

Inclement weather forced schedule changes to several district tournaments throughout the area.

The Class 1 District 1 championship game between Chaffee and Naylor will be played at 4 p.m. Monday at Three Rivers Community College.

Notre Dame and Sikeston will meet at 3 p.m. today in the Class 3 District 1 title game at Notre Dame Regional High School.

A Class 4 District 1 semifinal game between Central and Farmington is slated to resume at 4 p.m. Monday at Jackson City Park. The game was halted in the first inning with Central trailing 5-1. The championship game is scheduled for 4 p.m. Tuesday.

BOYS SOCCER

Perryville 12, Festus 0

It only took the Pirates 40 minutes to dominate the Tigers in the conference road rout.

Goalkeeper Luke Dobbelare had the shutout for Perryville (19-1).
