Southeast soccer team falls to Austin Peay, volleyball wins one on road

The Southeast Missouri State soccer team battled through a scoreless regulation before falling to Austin Peay 1-0 in overtime Friday night at Houck Stadium.

APSU's Mary Ruth Locastro scored five minutes into overtime to give the Govs the lone goal of the game.

The Redhawks outshot APSU 13-4 in the loss. Southeast freshman goalkeeper Kindra Lierz had three saves in the game.

Southeast falls to 5-5 on the season and 2-2 in the Ohio Valley Conference. The Govs improved to 3-9 and 2-2 in the OVC with the win.

The Redhawks face Belmont at 2 p.m. today in Nashville.

Volleyball

The Southeast volleyball team returned to action one week after its first OVC win of the season and split its two matches over the weekend to move to 2-4 in conference play.

On Friday, the Redhawks dropped a four-set match to Eastern Kentucky.

The Colonels never trailed in the first set and won 25-12.

Southeast won the second 25-14. The Redhawks and Colonels were tied 10-10 in the set, but EKU committed 11 attack or ball handling errors after that point.

EKU took the final two sets 25-14, 25-18 to improve to 13-7 and 4-1 in conference.

Senior right side hitter Kelsey Keeve led Southeast with seven kills while senior outside hitter Andrea Baylin and junior middle blocker Taylor Masterson each had six kills. EKU's Rachel Vick had a match-high 13 kills.

On Saturday, Southeast (6-13) needed five sets to get past Morehead State.

Southeast led for much of the first set and had a late 24-20 lead. However, the Eagles fought back to tie the set at 24.

The Redhawks and Eagles tied three times during the final eight points before Southeast pulled away for a 29-27 win.

Morehead State (0-19, 0-6) never trailed in the second set and won 25-17.

The Redhawks took a 2-1 set lead after defeating Morehead State 25-23 in the third set, but the Eagles bounced back to take the fourth set 25-20, forcing a fifth and final set.

The two teams tied nine times in the final set, including 11-11, but the Redhawks grabbed the final four points to pull out a 15-11 victory.

Masterson led the Redhawks with 14 kills, while Keeve added 13 kills. Baylin paced the Redhawks with 17 digs, and sophomore outside setter Katarina Rotta added 29 assists.

Colbey Cameron had a match-high 31 assists for the Eagles.

Southeast returns to action at 4 p.m. Monday when it hosts Missouri State.

Basketball

Southeast will hold Redhawks Madness, offering fans a chance to watch the men's and women's basketball teams in instrasquad scrimmages, tonight at the Show Me Center.

Doors open at 7:30 p.m., with the free event running from 8-9:30 p.m.

There will be free food, prize giveaways and a live DJ. Southeast students in attendance will receive a raffle ticket upon entrance, and the winner of the drawing will receive a 40-inch Samsung Smart TV.
