1964

Representatives of the Nell Holcomb School District told the Cape Girardeau School Board last night the district will have no choice but to join the Cape Girardeau system if city annexation takes part of the district; the Holcomb officials made it clear they would prefer to continue to operate their school and that the district be left intact.

Oct. 20 is the date selected for the morning ribbon-cutting ceremony that will open the addition to the International Shoe Co. plant in Jackson.

CHESTER, Ill. -- A plan here to finance construction of a traffic bridge across the Mississippi River by sale of bonds has been dropped for the time being and another method to finance the project has been taken up; Chester plans to seek government loans and grants to underwrite construction of the proposed span.

ST. LOUIS -- A new corporation headed by Harry W. Ostermeier and known as Sport Specialty Shoemakers Inc., has been organized and has purchased the Chaffee, Missouri, plant of the Collins-Morris Shoe Co.

1914

The Cape Girardeau County Fair board and the Cape Girardeau Commercial Club festivities committee hold a joint meeting to discuss the recent fair and fall festivities; under the contract between the two bodies, the Commercial Club agreed to make good any deficit up to $1,500 from the holding of the fair; but instead of there being a deficit, there is a surprise of about $2,000.

Mrs. D.M. Margraves, wife of the former Methodist minister of Oak Ridge, who recently removed to Marquand, Missouri, was injured by a bolt of lighting last week while hanging clothes on a line in the yard.
