SIKESTON, Mo. -- The Sikeston Department of Public Safety is investigating an armed robbery of a Dollar General store.

The robbery happened at 7:39 p.m. Thursday at the Dollar General at 917 S. Kingshighway.

Both of the store's employees were reportedly going outside for a break.

"A man dressed in all black came around the corner, pointed a gun at them and told them to go inside," said Capt. Jim McMillen, public information officer for the department. "They said he demanded money from the register. He brought a plastic bag with him and told them to put the money in there."

Also, McMillen said, the armed man told them to open the "change safe."

The suspect then fled the scene toward Murray Lane with an undisclosed amount of cash.
