Man faces 4 charges after high-speed chase

A Steele, Missouri, man is facing four criminal charges, including two felonies, after a high-speed chase Friday night in Cape Girardeau.

Matthew David Cameron, 20, is accused of endangering the welfare of a child and resisting a lawful stop -- both felonies -- and one count each of failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and careless and imprudent driving, both misdemeanors, according to his arrest warrant.

The warrant alleges Cameron fled from officer Roy Rahn, driving down William Street and Mount Auburn Road at "high rates of speed without any regard for traffic laws."

A 2-year-old child was in the vehicle at the time of the chase, the warrant states.

Cameron's bond was set at $5,000.

Online court records show he pleaded guilty in 2012 to a charge of third-degree assault and was given a suspended sentence of 120 days in jail and a $1,000 fine and placed on two years of supervised probation.

In October 2013, Cameron's probation was revoked.

Earlier this year, a warrant was issued for his arrest after he failed to appear for a Feb. 10 hearing before Associate Judge Gary Kamp on a Nov. 20 misdemeanor charge of resisting or interfering with arrest, online court records show.
