Norman "Buck" Abernathy, 84, of Jackson died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014, at Jackson Manor.

He was born June 7, 1930, in Oriole, Missouri, to Robert E. and Lela A. Singleton Abernathy. He and Judith Cook were married Feb. 11, 1962, at Scott City.

He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Army.

Buck had worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for over 31 years, retiring in 1997. He was a member of Iona Baptist Church in Oriole, former chairman of the deacons at the church and former member of the Masonic Lodge in Illmo. His hobbies were rabbit hunting with his beagles, golf and beekeeping.

Survivors include his wife, Judith Abernathy, of Jackson; a daughter, Sheila (Wayne) Baylor of Bragg City, Missouri: a son, Gerald (Khristy) Abernathy of Jackson; four grandchildren, Samantha and Hannah Baylor and Claire and Thomas Abernathy; and a sister, Alma M. Abernathy of Jackson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Allan Fletchall officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery, with full military honors by the Missouri Honors Team.

Memorial contributions may be given to Iona Baptist Church.
