BLOOMFIELD, Mo. -- A domestic disturbance call led to the alleged assault of a police officer and the subsequent arrest of a Bloomfield couple.

Zachary Birkett of Campbell, Missouri, called officer Brandon Cook on Oct. 19 about a domestic dispute between him and Charlotte R. Bradley of Bloomfield, according to a police report.

Birkett told Cook he wanted to retrieve his belongings from 108 E. Bloomfield Ave. and leave.

Cook stated in his report when he arrived at the home, he smelled alcohol on Bradley, who was yelling and cursing at him. Cook reportedly explained to her he was there so Birkett could get his things and leave. While Birkett gathered his belongings, Cook and Bradley spoke outside the residence and she reportedly explained there had been no altercation and that "[Birkett] was drunk and lying."

According to the report, Cook attempted to obtain Bradley's information so he could check for any warrants, but she grabbed her purse and walked away. Cook reported telling her twice to come back, then took her by the arm to keep her still.

Cook reported Bradley jerked her arm from him and turned to walk away, and he attempted to redirect her to his patrol vehicle. She pulled away from him, and Cook reportedly attempted to subdue her with a takedown maneuver. During the struggle, Cook's glasses were reportedly knocked from his face and damaged.

Cook knocked Bradley on her back, but she continued to resist as Cook called for assistance from the Stoddard County Sheriff's Department. While on the ground, Bradley kneed Cook in the groin and kicked him in the left shin.

Cook drew his Taser to try to subdue Bradley, the report states. It was at that point Birkett allegedly attempted to block the Taser. Birkett reportedly grabbed Cook from behind and tried to pull the officer backward. Cook reported pushing Birkett away and discharged his Taser, striking Birkett.

The report says Bradley lunged at Cook and attempted to grab him. Cook reportedly managed to "drive stun" her in the chest.

According to the report, Birkett complied with all commands after the Taser was used and was handcuffed. Cook attempted to find Bradley, who had run away. She was reportedly being restrained by family members near the patrol vehicle.

While Cook tried to handcuff Bradley, she allegedly pulled away and tried to strike Cook with her left hand. Cook reported placing Bradley into an "iron wrist-lock" and put her onto the hood of his vehicle so he could handcuff her.

Birkett and Bradley were transported to the Stoddard County Jail. Both were placed on a 24-hour hold and were later released.
