A Blodgett, Missouri, woman is in custody on suspicion of "doctor shopping."
Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter said officers began to investigate Diana Breedlove, 51, after she was reportedly obtaining medication from multiple doctors.
Breedlove has been charged with four felony counts of fraudulently attempting to obtain a controlled substance.
Walter stated in a news release that Breedlove concealed these facts when she reported to a local doctor's office near Benton, Missouri. The sheriff said Breedlove filled out paperwork stating she was out of her pain medication and that she was not receiving the medication from any other health-care provider.
Over three months, officers documented Breedlove used different pharmacies to obtain 1,062 pain pills at street value of $4,248. She paid in cash to avoid detection, according to the news release.
Walter said in the release that because Missouri does not have a monitoring program of prescription medications, investigators located these records by contacting pharmacies in the area and asking them to research Breedlove's transactions.
Walter reported it was likely some purchases have not been accounted for.
