Over 650 exhibitors from nine states bring their crafts to Cape Girardeau for the two-day Southeast Missouri Council on the Arts Christmas Art and Craft Bazaar and the River Valley Craft Club's annual show; the crafts are at the Holiday Inn Convention Center, the Arena Building and the Show Me Center.

SEDGEWICKVILLE, Mo. -- Eight employees of the Henschel Manufacturing Co. headwear plant here were taken to Cape Girardeau hospitals yesterday, after they were overcome by carbon monoxide gas; all were treated and released.

Two former Cape Girardeau National Guard officers are among those being considered to succeed Maj. Gen. Albert D. Sheppard as Missouri adjutant general; they are Col. Laurence B. Adams, who is assistant director of Selective Service in Jefferson City, Missouri, and Brig. Gen. Russell E. Boyt, commanding officer of the 35th Division and the assistant adjutant general.

The lifting of a deadline and an outpouring of public reaction against the Arena Park entrance as the location for a proposed Naval Reserve armory site has left city officials looking for an acceptable location outside the park.

1939

Thirty-four children were examined Friday at the crippled children's clinic held at Teachers College under the sponsorship of the State Crippled Children's Service at Columbia, Missouri; 24 of that number were new cases, the others being children who had gone through the clinic in 1937 and were back for a checkup.

One more old house in Cape Girardeau is joining the ranks of passing landmarks; the large frame dwelling at 413 N. Sprigg St., possibly 80 years old, is being torn down by William Headrick, who intends to build there; the house originally was a one-room brick cottage that was enlarged over the years into a house with 14 rooms.

Marvin Stout, a clerk in the post office here for several years, is to be the next assistant postmaster; recommendations to that end were sent to the post office department yesterday.

While driving along a street in the south end of the city in the morning with a wagon load of crushed stone, teamster J. Angle loses his foothold and falls to the ground; one wheel of the wagon rolls over both of his legs just below the knees, crushing the bones.
