PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Clinton O. Haertling, 75, of Perryville died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2014, in Perry County.

He was born May 24, 1939, in New Wells, Missouri, son of Theo and Olga Koch Haertling. He married Martha J. Eggers on June 29, 1963. She survives in Perryville.

Clinton was a retired teacher of 43 years, including at Immanuel Lutheran School in Perryville; he also was a principal and teacher at Lutheran schools in St. Louis. He had a bachelor of science degree in education from Concordia University in River Forest, Illinois, and a master's of education administration degree from Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Perryville. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and gardener.

Other survivors include one daughter and two sons, Jennifer Haertling of Rolling Meadows, Illinois, James (Leah) Haertling of Town and Country, Missouri, and Daniel (Jill) Haertling of St. Louis County; one brother and three sisters, Ruben Haertling of New Wells, Alida Evans of Frohna, Missouri, Lorene (Jerry) Mayfield of Patton, Missouri, Lorna (Kenneth) Steffens of Altenburg, Missouri; and three and grandchildren Samuel Haertling, Jennifer and Kristen Carter. He is also survived by brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jonathan Haertling; and three brothers, Elton, Harlen and Wayne Haertling.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Young and Sons Funeral Home.

He will then be taken to Immanuel Lutheran Church for a service at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Matthew Marks officiating. Interment will be at a later date.

Memorials are preferred to the Immanuel Lutheran School Building Fund or Saxony Lutheran High School.
