U.S. monarchy

Now that we have a king of the United States, I guess we can get rid of Congress and the Supreme Court, and save all the money we pay them in their salaries. I have voted on every election since I've been old enough. And I do not remember voting for a king, but I guess must have slept through that one.

Supreme interpretation

The Constitution means what the Constitution says, not what the Supreme Court says it means. The Supreme Court doesn't have enough collective sense to direct a one-car funeral.

Sharpton, taxes

I would like to know how somebody like Sharpton, who owes $4 million in back taxes, why isn't he in jail instead of out at places like Ferguson making trouble? He's just a troublemaker. Put him in jail. Make him pay his taxes.

Costs of war

The column in the Nov. 20 edition titled "The costs of war" by Jack Dragoni was very true and enlightening. Most of the older generation remember those sacrifices that we all did to chip in and do our part. That is quite in contrast to what we hear from politicians today. They want to cut our Social Security and Medicare, which we paid into and earned, and at the same that companies move their headquarters to foreign countries to evade taxes that should have helped pay for their interests.

Tracks, gaps

I agree with the person about the train tracks in Jackson. Why can't MoDOT fill that gap between the tracks with blacktop and mash it down? And then, if the train goes through, it will cut its own tracks. And while they're at it, go to Gordonville. Those tracks are just as bad.

Cops make mistakes

Wilson didn't get charged for killing Michael Brown. And the police keep on shooting the black man, and the judicial system don't do nothing about it. That is not fair. Police do wrong too, and they should be charged just like everybody else. But the government and all want to take up for them. They want to give police a pat on the back, and that is not right, because that is somebody's son. They could have Tased the man. They could have did something else. What did you all give the police a Taser for? Police should be charged. If they do wrong, they should be charged. I don't blame the people for being mad.

Ferguson mess

I am sitting here on Monday night watching the Ferguson mess. It is disgusting to see these people breaking into stores and just going in and carrying out things they have no right to. These people ... It's a shame that we can't stick them all in jail until they learn to act like common, ordinary people. It's ridiculous. And then they complain because they're getting teargassed and making them sick. Well, I'm glad that is making them sick, because they had no business being out there. And they're saying that there's a lot of people who have brought their kids out there. What kind of an idiot parent would bring their child out to something like that? That's terrible and I'm ashamed of all these people that purport to be law-abiding Americans. They're just a bunch of people there that want to cause trouble. And it's a shame.

Making it worse

Can anybody explain how protesters think they will get any respect after they way they acted in Ferguson for three months and especially tonight after this grand jury results were released? How pathetic. They are not helping out their cause. In fact, they are making it much worse.

Don't be criminals

I wish that police officer in St. Louis had not shot Michael Brown. I wish he'd just rolled up his window and called for more police backup, but the deed's done. What we have to remember is, we need our young people not to be criminals, instead to spend time in church and have a sense of family in love and God.

Deserved

Yes, I'd like to speak about the Michael Brown thing on the news. I think the policeman was justified in what he did. If you rob a store and bully people, and then try to kill a policeman in his own car, I think he deserves what he gets.

Loot excuse

This is in regard to the Ferguson case, where the cop got acquitted of the crime, of the shooting. I think the decision made by the jury, they thought that he was innocent, and I think the town ought to go along with the decision. But evidently they didn't. It was just another excuse for them to steal, loot and cause chaos where it really wasn't needed. And I just want to know if they would have done the same thing if somebody was coming toward them, maybe threatening their life, what they would have done.

Sharpton

I see Al Sharpton on with the Brown family and the lawyer. And he's the one going around trying to get an uproar going. He's just a trouble maker. He makes trouble and then runs.

On tracks

This is in response to the persons calling about the railroad tracks crossings in Jackson. They're at the stoplight. It's not the train people that are responsible for that. It's the state. The train does what it can to keep it up between state visits, but it is on a state program to be totally repaired after the beginning of the year. But if they have a complaint about it, it's the state they should be calling, not Speak Out complaining to the train people.

Smokers

This morning I read that the U.S. adult smoking rate dipped just under 18 percent of the population. My family just visited the casino in Cape Girardeau. It seems that those 18 percent were all at the casino that night. As soon as we walked into the front doors, it smelled like nasty ashtrays. When we came home our clothes smelled of stale cigarettes. Hopefully in a few years it will be reported that another 50 percent have given up this nasty habit.

Congress and Obama

Yes maybe Obama should talk to Congress, but they are always on vacation, or out campaigning. But they won't talk with him if he tried. Anything that he tries to talk about they just say no. The street runs two ways, but not the one Congress is on. The street goes either out of town or to help the 1 percent get richer.

Stupid coverage

Anyone who claims that Michael Brown wouldn't have killed Officer Wilson needs to think back when our State Trooper Froemsdorf who was killed not by an armed black man but a man so skinny he was able to get out of the hand cuffs and take the troopers gun and shoot him. Yes the news media is raking in the money on their stupid unreal coverage. I have very little respect of them. Whether black, white or whatever color, a police officer should protect his own life in these situations as well as ours.

Not surrendering

Some people will do anything to get their 15 seconds of stardom even if it makes them look stupid. These "protesters" running around saying "Hands up, don't shoot" are still brainwashed from proven untrue statements that falsely portrayed Brown as surrendering. He was not.

Obama's fault

Consumer confidence is at its highest level in 7 years. For remaining consistently optimistic about our academic future and for demonstrating the benefits of a well regulated free market, I thank you, President Obama.
