A Cape Girardeau man's apartment was invaded by three people who robbed him at gunpoint Monday evening, police say.

Cape Girardeau Police Department spokesman Darin Hickey said the robbery, in the 100 block of North Park Avenue, was reported to police around 7:45 p.m. Monday. The victim told police he heard a knock at his door and asked the person outside to identify themselves. A female voice responded, the victim told police, and he opened the door to find a man pointing a pistol at him. Two women and the man forced the victim into his apartment and struck him in the head, Hickey said, then demanded money. The suspects took a box containing prescription drugs and cash and left on foot, according to the victim's report to police. The victim did not require medical treatment.

The victim also reported he heard two gunshots as the suspects fled, but police did not find any related injuries or damage in the area.

Officers canvassed the area but did not locate anyone who matched the descriptions of the suspects provided by the victim. The man, according to Hickey, was about 5'11" with a thin build and was wearing a jacket. One of the women was wearing a white hooded sweatshirt. No other detailed descriptions of the suspects were given to police.

Investigators had not identified any suspects in the robbery as of Tuesday afternoon.

Police are also investigating a reported assault and robbery Sunday night believed to be unrelated to Monday's home invasion.

Hickey said police received a call from two victims around 8:50 p.m. Sunday who went to SoutheastHEALTH for treatment after allegedly being assaulted by a group of teenagers in Riverfront Park, the walkway along the Mississippi River in downtown Cape Girardeau.

The victims, a man and woman, reported that five people, including four teenage girls and a teenage boy, began following them as they were walking near Water and Themis streets. Hickey said the group began assaulting the victims and took the female victim's purse, then fled north on foot. The victims had scrapes and bruises from the assault, Hickey said.

No one has been arrested in connection with the incident, Hickey said.
