The Southeast Missouri State women's basketball team established its first winning streak of the season with a victory over Missouri-Kansas City on the road Wednesday night.

The Redhawks led for most of the game in a 65-50 victory over the Kangaroos.

Southeast (4-5) trailed only once in the game, by a point just 3 minutes, 5 seconds into the contest.

After a jump shot by junior guard Olivia Hackmann broke a 7-all tie, the Redhawks never trailed.

Hackmann's jumper sparked a 9-0 run to make it 16-7 with 8:27 left in the half.

The Redhawks led by as many as 14 in the first 20 minutes and held a 30-17 advantage at the break.

UMKC never trailed by fewer than eight points the rest of the way.

The Kangaroos trimmed it to 44-36 with 11:39 to play before Southeast rattled off eight unanswered points over the next three minutes to take a commanding 16-point lead.

The Redhawks' largest lead was 21 points.

Southeast shot 47.5 percent (29 of 61) in the contest, and shot 53.3 percent in the second half.

The Redhawks connected on just 3 of 15 attempts from behind the arc, but scored 38 points in the paint.

The Kangaroos (2-7) connected on just four field goals in the first half and shot 33.3 percent (18 of 54) in the game. They did knock down 7 of 15 (46.7 percent) 3-point attempts.

Southeast committed four turnovers in the game.

Hackmann led Southeast with 13 points, six rebounds, three blocks and two steals off the bench.

Sophomore guard Brianna Mitchell chipped in 10 points in 17 minutes of action while starting senior guard Jasmine Robinson had 10 points and eight rebounds.

Junior forward Erin Bollmann and senior guard Yelena Rosado each had eight points. Bollmann also had eight rebounds. The Kangaroos were led by Calli White, who finished with 18 points and four rebounds. White was 4 of 6 from 3-point range.

Taylor Leathers had 12 points and six rebounds for UMKC.

Southeast leaves early Friday morning for the Glass City Classic in Toledo, Ohio.

The Redhawks face Detroit and Idaho at 11 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
