"Gone Girl" is again topping the charts, this time on iTunes.

The film starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike as the dysfunctional couple Nick and Amy Dunne, sits at No. 1 on the iTunes film charts after it was released Tuesday. It edges a number of other films that enjoyed wide popularity in 2014, including "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes."

It also has earned a nearly five-star rating from dozens of customer reviews, mirroring similarly positive reviews the film received from critics before its Oct. 3 release.

Those who buy the film on iTunes in high definition receive a few extras, including commentary from director David Fincher. "Gone Girl" is available for purchase from the iTunes store for $14.99 for high definition and $13.99 for standard definition.

To many, it may seem they watched the mystery-thriller film in theaters for the first time only a few weeks ago. For others, it may have been only days ago.

The film enjoyed a 12-weekend run at Wehrenberg Cape West 14 Cine, filling seats well through the first half of its run, according to local theater officials. They also said people continued trickling in for some of the final showings to check out the movie that featured Cape Girardeau as the fictional town of North Carthage, Missouri. "Gone Girl" showings continued as late as Tuesday evening at the local theater.

For those who decided to wait for the DVD release to watch the film, the wait is nearly over. The film is scheduled to be released on Blu-ray disc and DVD on Jan. 13, 20th Century Fox recently announced.

Amazon.com has both available for pre-order. An extra offered with the purchase of the Blu-ray is a 36-page, limited edition "Amazing Amy Tattle Tale" book, according to entertainment website hypable.com. The Blu-ray release also features audio commentary from Fincher.

The DVD and Blu-ray release comes two days before the scheduled announcement of the 2015 Oscar nominations, where some expect "Gone Girl" to land in a few categories. Final winners will not be announced until the Academy Awards show Feb. 22.
