BERNIE, Mo. -- The March baseball success continued for the Bernie Mules Monday afternoon against the Scott City Rams.

Devin Trammell enjoyed a complete-game victory on the hill as state-ranked Bernie scored in every inning it batted with the exception of the bottom of the fourth on its way to a 7-1 home win against Scott City.

"It was a really good win for us because I thought Scott City played really well," Bernie coach Darrin Shipman said. "They put the bat on the ball and made some good defensive plays. I was really proud of our guys for being able to hold them to one run and having good at-bats for the most part."

The Mules (3-0), ranked No. 7 in Class 2, scored the first six runs of the contest off of Scott City starting pitcher Braden Cox.

Bernie took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when leadoff hitter Austin Beck drew a leadoff walk and later scored from third base on a sacrifice fly by Trammell.

No. 9 hitter Jayce Burk provided pop from the bottom of the order when he hit a two-out solo home run in the second inning to pad Bernie's advantage to 2-0.

Trammell collected his second RBI on a one-out single in the bottom of the third frame to make the score 3-0.

Owen Foster added a three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning to increase Bernie's lead to 6-0.

Scott City No. 3 hitter Trent Pobst spoiled a potential shutout with a leadoff home run in the top of the sixth inning.

Bernie No. 2 hitter Matt Vernon, who finished 2 for 3, set the final score when he drove home a runner from third base when he grounded out in the bottom of the sixth inning.

"I thought even the guys in the bottom of our lineup competed well today," Shipman said about his team scoring seven runs on seven hits. "We didn't get ourselves out by swinging at bad pitches and put the bat on the ball. We faced a quality pitcher today and you have to give him credit. He did some really good things, but overall we had some really good at-bats."

Trammell allowed just five hits in seven innings and walked two. He struck out the side in his final two innings and finished with 12 strikeouts .

"I thought early on he pounded the strike zone with fastballs, they put the ball in play and we made the plays behind him," Shipman said. "Then he started mixing in his curveball and got several strikeouts on curveballs. But what I liked the most was he was throwing strikes."

Cox pitched the first five innings and Dylan Keller pitched the sixth inning for Scott City.
