Blocking roads

It's Saturday and I'm watching the news, and I'm seeing where Baltimore is saying that they're going to protest and have the biggest march that ever happened. They're going to halt traffic in protest of the young gentleman's death after he was arrested. Do I agree with what those police did? No, not at all. But they have to realize that there are ambulances and fire trucks and things that can't get through the city to help people, any kind of people, if they do that like they did at Ferguson and other places.

More enforcement

I wonder why the city of Cape Girardeau is letting these old buildings that are unoccupied and run down stay without condemning them and destroying them, and then ruin the value of the property next door to them. Something's very wrong. I don't understand it. They're trying to create another Smelterville or what for South Cape, but something sure does need to be done about it.

Fast food

I totally agree with Bob Miller's very excellent article in Sunday's April 26 edition regarding using schools and students for fast-food ad campaigns. Are they going to advertise for other fast-food restaurants? The school system in Jackson is going downhill very fast. Congratulations, Mr. Miller, on your article.

Moore of that

This is a memo to the Jackson School Board. I'm a 30-year veteran of public school teaching in Missouri, a parent of three children and a grandparent of seven. And I have known many music teachers. All of them were fine, in one way or another, or in many ways. But I happened to see Mr. Joe Moore lead a group of 100 Jackson kindergarten and first graders at their spring concert, held at the high school last Thursday evening. Other than being outstanding in every way possible, the thing that really grabbed me was that every kid was doing what they were supposed to be doing. Everyone participated. No one was sitting around or standing around in a lackadaisical way. You folks need to see one of Mr. Moore's performances.

No strings

You know, if that fast food outfit in Jackson really wanted to help the Jackson Public Schools, then they should (with no strings attached), make a substantial donation to the system's foundation.

Preservation

I'm all for historical preservation, but let's not get carried away. Do we really think a couple of houses in Cape are equivalent to the Taj Mahal, ancient Roman Colosseum, Great Wall of China, pyramids of ancient Egypt, etc.?
