Radio talk show personality Rush Limbaugh will perform June 10 at the Show Me Center; proceeds from his appearance here will benefit Patty McQuay, a Jackson resident battling cancer.

1965

Three people -- Yolande Palisch, Janet Hinson and Anne Teaford -- become citizens of the United States in afternoon naturalization ceremonies in the U.S. District Courtroom here; John P. Bradshaw, a Cape Girardeau lawyer, delivers the principal address and Federal Judge Roy W. Harper presides.

The Cape Girardeau City Council charges that fraud and forgery were committed in connection with the council-manager petition drive, and as a result the council found the petitions legally insufficient; there will be no vote on the matter.

1940

Cape Girardeau's unofficial population is announced by Census superintendent W.G. Wicker as 19,455, an increase of 3,228 people over the 1930 count.

The deadly tornado that swept Scott County communities recently claimed another victim when Joseph Pelly, 63, the operator of a recreational establishment at Illmo, succumbs to injuries sustained in the storm; he had been partly conscious only at intervals since the storm pinned him under the wreckage of his establishment.

1915

The Frisco Railroad must either take the Houck roads, known as the Cape Girardeau Northern, and operate them, or it must make good on its guarantee of the bonds; that decision is handed down in federal court in St. Louis.

A resolution by Councilman Bowman clears away any misunderstanding over the matter of the employment of city engineer Chris Stiver to prepare the plans and supervise the construction of the sewer system in the west end; Stiver will receive $50 per month in addition to his regular salary of $100 per month.
