Albert Walther

Albert W. Walther, 95, of Jackson passed away Friday, May 1, 2015, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Sept. 5, 1919, in Pocahontas to Ernst and Anna Dreyer Walther. He was baptized Sept. 19, 1919, and confirmed April 9, 1933, at Zion Lutheran Church in Pocahontas. He and Aleen M. Willa were married Feb. 24, 1946, at St. John's United Church of Christ near Jackson.

He was in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1941 to 1946. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Campaign, was a construction foreman and earned the Rifle Sharpshooter badge. He was a 65-year-member of American Legion Post 158 in Jackson. Albert and Aleen were members of Zion Lutheran Church in Pocahontas until transferring to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson in 1954, where they remained faithful members. He served as an Elder and on the St. Paul School West Building Committee. Albert was well known in the community. He and Aleen farmed north of Jackson.

Loving survivors include his wife of 69 years; four sons, Richard (Carol) Walther, Roy (Brenda) Walther, Ralph (Mary) Walther and Ronald (Pam) Walther, all of Jackson; eight grandchildren, Alisha (Jamie) Curtis, Travis (Jana) Walther, Ryan (Tina) Walther, Jana Walther, Leann (Shannon) Stinson, Jason (Leslie) Walther and Josh Walther, all of Jackson, and Jill (Chad) Lankford of Perryville, Missouri; three stepgrandchildren, Shawna, Jade and Rusty; six great-grandchildren, Ireland Curtis, Addysen Walther, Jakoata Walther, Jaylie and Drake Walther and Stella Lankford; two great-stepgrandchildren, Trenton Curtis and Logan Wiggins; and three sisters, Nelda McMurtry and Irene Hurst of St Louis and Meta Hunt of Jackson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and five sisters.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson and from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday at St, Paul Lutheran Church.

The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, with the Rev. Jason Shaw officiating. Burial will be at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson with graveside military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church General Fund or St. Paul Lutheran Church Refurbishing Fund.
