High school roundup: Central boys tennis team drops district match

The fifth-seeded Central boys tennis team fell 5-1 to fourth-seeded Oakville in a first-round match in the Class 2 District 1 team tournament Monday in suburban St. Louis.

The Tigers' lone victory came in No. 2 doubles, where Parker Outman and Alex Gentle posted a 9-7 victory.

Oakville advanced to play top-seeded Poplar Bluff in today's semifinals.

Central (1-12) will return to action in the Class 2 District 1 individual tournament Friday in Farmington.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

John Fennewald had 13 kills, eight digs and six assists to lead the Bulldogs to a three-set victory.

Austin Williams and Tyler Allen both finished with six kills for Notre Dame (19-7).

The Bulldogs will honor their seven seniors tonight in their final home match when they face Metro East Lutheran of Edwardsville, Illinois.

GIRLS SOCCER

Jackson 2, Mehlville 0

Jordan Nelson scored two second-half goals to lift the Indians to a road victory.

Haley Woodard and Lauren Welker each record an assist for Jackson (17-2-1).

Goalkeepers Sarah Blanton and Sam Snicker combined to post the shutout.

St. Vincent 3, Farmington 1

St. Vincent's Corin Carroll broke up a scoreless game two minutes before halftime and the Indians added a pair of goals in the second half in the road victory.

Faith Kapp scored three minutes into the second half, and Hannah Lukefahr struck 11 minutes later to build a 3-0 lead. Jenna Winkler assisted on the first two goals, while Courney Brown assisted on the latter.

Taylor Schwartzkopf netted a late goal for Farmington.

Brett Schario made four saves in goal for St. Vincent (12-9).
