ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- A Girl Scouts group that serves girls in 47 counties in northwest Missouri and northeast Kansas is cutting ties with United Way over fundraising concerns.

Girl Scouts of NE Kansas & NW Missouri says it notified the United Way of Greater St. Joseph it has decided to end the partnership between the two organizations, effective May 31.

Joy Wheeler, CEO of the Girl Scouts group, says the decision was based on United Way's restrictions on when members can raise money and from whom. She says the organization wants to reach more girls with different programs and new donors.

The St. Joseph News- Leader reported United Way officials say the organization believes if agencies work together, they can raise more money from more people than if they work separately.
