Among the many events scheduled for Memorial Day weekend is the annual 100-Mile Yard Sale.

Each year, participants set up tables along Highway 25 from Kennett, Missouri, to Jackson, attracting bargain hunters from across the region.

The event begins Thursday and continues through Monday.

With hundreds of vendors and thousands of shoppers, Highway 25 is a busy place Memorial Day weekend. To encourage safe driving and safe shopping, the Missouri Department of Transportation places message boards along the route, alerting drivers of the unusual traffic.

"We really want drivers to be alert -- to be aware of their surroundings, to be aware of sudden stops and to look for pedestrian traffic," said MoDOT traffic engineer Craig Compas in a news release. "It's a big event locally, and we want everyone to enjoy themselves and be as safe as possible."
