Lauren Welker netted two goals, including the game-winning goal with 35 seconds left in the game, as the top-seeded Jackson girls soccer team edged fourth-seeded Fox 3-2 in the opening round of the Class 4 District 1 tournament at Northwest High School in Cedar Hill, Missouri.

Rachel Crites scored the other goal for Jackson (19-2-1). Jordan Nelson and Cassidi Tomsu each had one assist for the Indians.

Goalkeeper Sarah Blanton had three saves.

Fox finished with a record of 6-15. The Indians will face the winner of second-seeded Seckman (10-9) and third-seeded Northwest (10-13-1) for the district championship at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Saxony Lutheran 10, Carnahan 0

Grace Mirly scored two goals and had one assist as the top-seeded Crusaders trounced the fourth-seeded Cougars (6-3) in the opening round of the Class 1 District 1 tournament at the Perryville Soccer Complex.

Ali Galemmo and Raegan Wieser each netted two goals for Saxony Lutheran (20-2). Tess Daniel and Logan Meyr added one goal and one assist apiece. Addie Beussink dished out four assists, while Brianna Mueller and Logan Welker each had one assist.

Saxony will take on second-seeded host St. Vincent (13-10) for the district title at 6 p.m. Wednesday. The Indians downed third-seeded Kelly 2-0 in the other semifinal.

Sikeston 4, Central 1

Sikeston's Torrie Helms scored three goals to lead the third-seeded Bulldogs in an upset of the second-seeded host Tigers in the opening round of the Class 3 District 1 tournament.

Mackenzie Yant had two assists and Sydney Henson added one assist for Sikeston (14-10). The Bulldogs will face fourth-seeded Farmington (10-14) for the district championship at 6 p.m. today. The Knightettes pulled off a 3-2 upset of top-seeded Poplar Bluff (10-13) in the other semifinal.

Central closed its season with a record of 8-15.

BOYS TENNIS

Class 1 District 1 Individuals Tournament

Notre Dame's Brendan Boswell and John Stroup won the doubles championship at the Class 1 District 1 individuals tournament at Notre Dame Regional High School.

The Bulldogs will host the individual sectionals at 4 p.m. today.
