Walter "Walt" E. Diebold, 87, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, May 25, 2015, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born June 29, 1927, in Benton, Missouri, to the late Anton A. and Christine C. (Strack) Diebold. He and Viola Westrich were married May 28, 1949, in New Hamburg, Missouri.

Walt served in the Army during World War II. He was a police officer for the Cape Girardeau Police Department for 13 years. He then was owner and operator of Diebold's Parking Lot Service. He was also a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Viola Diebold of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Sharon Carlquist of Vero Beach, Florida, and Jane (Larry) Hinkle of Cape Girardeau; two sons, Gary (Diana) Diebold of Jackson and Ronal (Candy) Diebold of Jackson; two brothers, Anton (Ethel) Diebold Jr. of St. Louis and Leonard (Willene) Diebold of Lebanon, Tennessee; four sisters, Virginia Essner of Chaffee, Missouri, and Ida Mae Ford, Chris Brandt and Mary Francis Harrison, all of St. Louis; eight grandchildren, Shawn Hinkle, David, Matthew and Todd Diebold, Dillon Diebold, Colton and Cassidy McMichael and Tyler Diebold; seven great-grandchildren, Kylie Hinkle, Mason, Madison, Aidan, Christian and Peyton Diebold, and Maverick Diebold; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Norbert and Claude Diebold; and a son-in-law, Gary Carlquist.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. Parish Prayers will be at 6:30 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau, with Father Bobby Manso officiating.

Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Missouri Veteran's Home.
