ST. LOUIS -- Missouri highway officials say a key ramp into downtown St. Louis from the Poplar Street Bridge that spans the Mississippi River soon will be closed for a month.

The Missouri Department of Transportation told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch the ramp westbound to southbound Interstate 55 and westbound Interstate 44 will be closed starting at 8 p.m. today.

The department said crews also will close the ramp from eastbound Interstate 44 to downtown St. Louis' Walnut Street for a week beginning at 9 a.m. today. During the work, drivers will need to use the ramp from eastbound I-44 to Washington Avenue to get to downtown.

Drivers are urged to follow the posted detours.
