Faculty and staff at Cape Girardeau Central Junior High School have established an account at Montgomery Bank for a student who recently was injured in a hit-and-run accident.

Arianna Harris, who had just completed seventh-grade, was walking across Independence Street from Amerimart to the school May 19 when she was struck by a vehicle and landed on the north side of the road, according to Cape Girardeau police.

She was transported by ambulance to a hospital, where she was treated and released, police said.

The vehicle was found later that afternoon at an apartment complex at 45 S. West End Blvd. in Cape Girardeau.

Adam J. Mouser, 24, of Cape Girardeau was issued summonses for leaving the scene of an accident, having no insurance and driving with a suspended license, said Cpl. Darin Hickey of the Cape Girardeau Police Department.

Hickey said Mouser is to appear in court within a month.

Dana Saverino, communications director for the district, said the school wanted to help the

family with medical expenses, especially because the driver did not have insurance.

More than $500 has been donated so far by faculty and staff at the district, Saverino said, and all proceeds will go directly to Harris' family.

Donations can be made by visiting either Montgomery Bank location in Cape Girardeau, 2027 Broadway and 200 S. Mount Auburn Road., and asking to donate to Arianna Harris' account.
