Ronald Earl Monighan, 85, of Jackson passed away Monday, June 29, 2015, at Jackson Manor Nursing Home.

He was born Dec. 20, 1929, in Des Moines, Iowa, son of Elwood "E.J." and Edna Baber Monighan. He and his beloved wife, Joan Neujahr, were married Aug. 21, 1958. She preceded him in death Nov. 4, 1986.

Ronald served in the United States Navy as an E-7 assistant gunner mate. He retired after 21 years and was in the reserves until June 1, 1978.

He then worked 25 years for the St. Louis County Parks Department. Ronald spent the last two years living with a son and daughter-in-law, Sean and Shonda, enjoying life and getting to know his granddaughters, Destinee, Hailee and Rilee.

Loving survivors include two sons, Ronald Monighan of St. Louis and Sean (Shonda) Monighan of Jackson; two daughters, Kathy (Garry) Colbert of Cedar Hill, Missouri, and Colleen Monighan of Cape Girardeau; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. until service time today at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home, with Ryan Sutton officiating. Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Jefferson Barracks Cemetery in St. Louis with full military honors.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to the Missouri Veterans Home, 2400 Veterans Memorial Drive, Cape Girardeau, MO 63701.
