Joseph Thomas Sullivan, 84, of Cape Girardeau passed away Sunday, July 26, 2015, at Life Care Center of Cape Girardeau. He was born Sept. 26, 1930, in Cape Girardeau, son of Richard A. and Ida Agusta Wendell Sullivan. Joseph Thomas Sullivan, 84, of Cape Girardeau passed away Sunday, July 26, 2015, at Life Care Center of Cape Girardeau.

He was born Sept. 26, 1930, in Cape Girardeau, son of Richard A. and Ida Agusta Wendell Sullivan. He married the love of his life, Marcella "Marcie" Scharenborg, on Feb. 15, 1958, at St. John's Catholic Church in Leopold, Missouri.

Joe was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. He was a man of great faith and always had his rosary close to his heart.

He served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1954, where he was a staff sergeant in the air police.

Joe worked at Montgomery Ward, Hale's Jewelry, Rhea Optical and A.F. Sullivan Tom's Sales. Regardless of his place of employment, he was a dedicated and hard worker.

Loving survivors include his wife of 57 years, Marcie; a son, David (Lori) Sullivan of San Francisco, California; two daughters, Janice Friedrich of Cape Girardeau and Nancy (Tim) Rickmeyer of Huntsville, Alabama; and three granddaughters, Molly Friedrich and Mary and Katie Rickmeyer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, William, Wendell, Paul, Warren, Harry and Al Sullivan; and two sisters, Elizabeth Hanning and Lee Boos.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at St. Vincent de Paul Church.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. David Hulshof officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Cape Girardeau with full military honors.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church or Birthright.
